Reduce Stress Before the NFLPA Contract Advisor Exam: Think Beyond Exam Day

Spend a Few Minutes Thinking Beyond the Exam

As the NFLPA Contract Advisor Certification Exam gets closer, it's easy to let every study session end the same way.

You close the CBA.

You close your notes.

And your mind immediately starts asking questions like:

  • Did I study enough today?

  • What if they ask about a topic I overlooked?

  • Should I read one more chapter before bed?

Those thoughts are completely normal.

But after every study session, I'd encourage you to spend just two- or three-minutes thinking about something else.

Think about what happens after the exam.

Not because it guarantees success.

Because it reminds you why you're working so hard.

Picture the Afternoon After the Exam

At some point on July 20, you'll walk out of the testing center.

Whether you felt great about the exam or found it more difficult than expected, one thing will be true:

The exam will be over.

You've spent months preparing.

You'll finally have a chance to relax.

So ask yourself:

  • Where are you going for lunch?

  • Are you meeting your spouse or family?

  • Are you heading home to relax?

  • Are you playing a round of golf or the driving range?

  • The local tavern?

  • Watching a baseball game?

  • Taking the rest of the day completely off?

Having something enjoyable planned gives you something positive to look forward to during the final weeks of preparation.

Then Think About September

Now picture another moment.

You're checking your email one morning in September.

There's an email from the NFLPA.

You open it.

After months of studying, practice questions, mock exams, and countless hours with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, you read the words you've been hoping to see:

Congratulations.

You've passed.

Take a moment to think about what that day might look like.

Who will you call first?

Your spouse?

A parent?

A close friend?

The mentor who encouraged you to pursue certification?

How will you celebrate?

Dinner?

A weekend trip?

Maybe just the satisfaction of knowing that your hard work paid off.

Whatever your celebration looks like, it's worth thinking about.

Keep the Goal in Mind

The final weeks before the exam can feel overwhelming.

There is always another practice question.

Another chapter of the CBA.

Another topic you could review.

Remember that you're not studying simply to finish another mock exam.

You're studying because you're working toward becoming an NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor.

Keeping that larger goal in mind can make long study sessions feel more purposeful and help reduce some of the stress that naturally builds before a high-stakes exam.

Then Get Back to Work

After you've spent a few minutes thinking about those two moments...

Come back to today's assignment.

Solve another practice question.

Review another CBA provision.

Complete another mock exam.

Ask another question.

Every productive study session moves you one step closer to walking out of the testing center on July 20, and, hopefully, opening that congratulatory email in September.

Final Thought

The NFLPA Contract Advisor Certification Exam is challenging.

There will probably be moments over the next few weeks when you question whether you've studied enough.

When that happens, remember two things:

Picture the afternoon after the exam.

Then picture the day you receive the email saying you passed.

Those moments are what you're working toward.

Now go earn them.
